The 90th birth anniversary of the legendary queen of sarod, the late Guru Sharan Rani was commemorated with due honours. As the foremost woman practitioner of the sarod during her time, Guru Sharan Rani pioneered a revolution by making the sarod a woman-friendly classical instrument, for future generations.
In keeping with her pristine status and appeal, a commemorative evening was organised by her daughter Radhika Backliwal Narain, wherein a Lifetime Achievement Award was given to Pandit Vishwa Mohan Bhatt, the country’s ace Mohan Veena vadak by Shr Amitabh Kant CEO Niti Aayog . This was followed by a live concert recital by the maestro Pandit Vishwa Mohan Bhatt, accompanied by his son and disciple, Salil Bhatt, on the Satvik Veena. Tabla accompaniment for the same, will be provided by Shri Ram Kumar Mishra.
For connoisseurs and music aficionados, it was an opportunity to relive the Sharan Rani era through a short film of 29 minutes, featuring snippets from the musical journey of the late Guru Sharan Rani. The film was shown which was directed by Radhika Backliwal Narain, who has expertly gelled together the musical as also the pioneering personal heritage of ‘Sangeet Saraswati Guru Sharan Rani Backliwal’. The film deftly takes into account the personal, musical and international makeover, and professional excellence of this late pioneering performer.
